A dramatic original Devilman: The Birth production cel featuring Akira Fudo, Ryo Asuka, and the demon Illuge in a tense horror-action sequence from the 1987 OVA. This striking two-layer setup captures the brutal atmosphere of Go Nagai’s dark fantasy world, with Illuge looming in attack position as Akira pulls Ryo away from danger.
The image has the sinister, hand-painted presence that makes vintage Devilman production art so compelling: sharp demon teeth, claw-like forms, heavy shadow shapes, and the physical depth of layered acetate. Akira and Ryo are shown from behind in the middle of the attack, while Illuge dominates the left side of the composition with a vivid pink body, dark hair, and a feral expression.
This cel appears around the 30:08 mark of Devilman: The Birth, during the sequence in which Akira pulls Ryo, who is holding a shotgun, out of the window of their Audi as Illuge attacks. The two cel layers appear on screen seconds apart, making this a strong approximate sequence match rather than a perfect timing-sheet match. Immediately afterward, Ryo fires the double-barrel shotgun and blood splatters across him, placing this cel directly in the buildup to one of the scene’s most violent moments.
This is an original hand-painted anime production cel used in the traditional animation process. It is not a reproduction, print, or fan-made item. The cel is presented with a non-matching copy background for display purposes and includes a Soul of Tokyo Certificate of Authenticity.
A memorable and atmospheric Devilman horror cel, with excellent demon imagery, strong character presence, and the unmistakable look of original 1980s Japanese OVA production art.
