Robot Carnival (1987) – Original Production Douga (Opening Sequence, Robot Orchestra)
Up for sale is an original, one-of-a-kind production douga pencil drawing used in the making of the Opening Animation of Robot Carnival (1987), directed by Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira). This rare piece captures the robot orchestra featured in the film’s memorable introduction, with the stage drums prominently marked “Robot Carnival” across their surfaces.
Robot Carnival has often been compared to Disney’s Fantasia in tone and structure—a compilation of nine shorts by different directors, unified by music and imagery. As the title suggests, this anthology centers on robots, with the opening and ending sequences created by Otomo himself, making artwork from these scenes especially collectible.
